Yesterday I went through a good amount of the Fall Gallery Walk put together by DADA (Dallas Art Dealers Association).

Of about 20 galleries I can highly recommend seeing two things:

1) Simeen Ishaque’s “Words without voices, forms without bodies” at The MAC (pictured). Very beautiful, haunting. Great use of space, material and color (or technically not color).

2) Richie Budd: New Work at Road Agent. This is the one event that just made me smile when I walked in. Think art car, dance party, bar, etc. Just go see. This video gives a good idea of what he is doing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dmt1OOQY4Y

All and all I would give the walk 3/5 stars. Meaning, there is good stuff getting created out there. There is room for improvement through. Especially in the area of presentation. Walking into room after room of art on walls with numbered sheet, free wine and cheese, generic art dealer talk gets old really quick.

I am thinking next time it would be fun for people we know to get a space (mostly for the night only) setup a theme camp and display our wares and really engage some people. Make them say WTF, “where’s the door?” or whatever.

Other galleries I found to be worth visiting again: Samuel Lynne Galleries (the paintings by Ray Phillips are nice), Goss-Michael Foundation (Tim Noble & Sue Webster exhibition is definitely original and ends September 30th), Photographs Do Not Bend Gallery and Conduit Gallery (more for their great space than the current exhibition).
