I take 900 pills each day. Get 900 antibiotics dripped into me each day. Apply 900 creams and ointments to my body. Get 900 examinations a day by doctors and nurses. They all ask the same 900 questions. They take my vitals and weigh me 900 times.
Okay. I might have embellished the numbers. But you get the idea. It “feels” like 900 times.
Here is what is new with me.
– After three weeks, more or less in bed most of the time, I feel a little weak on my feet. I am getting a physical therapist and an occupational therapist.
– My blood counts are all still very low. In fact I am getting two more units of red blood cells today due to an excessively low hemoglobin count. There is a chance I will need platelets tomorrow. I am so ready to be independent on the this blood thing. Come on bone marrow!
– If everything goes as expected I could be discharged from the hospital on May 1st. That would be wonderful. Of course this all hinges on my bone marrow responding correctly to the treatment.
– Lastly, my hair around my hairline comes out by the fistful with great ease. You know, aside from the smoking, I always thought Yul Brynner was way cool 🙂
hey michael. sarah just sent your blog link out to all she is keeping updated on your health. i know this whole ordeal is not exactly what you ever intended, and i am sorry you are having to go through it all. your record of it is incredible, and i know peri will surely enjoy reading all of your blog entries when she is older. you are leaving a legacy, and i think it is amazing. she will know exactly what type of person you are – your art likes, your drink likes, your travel likes, etc. you have definitely been in mine and brian’s prayers. it is so scary when something like this happens to someone so young, but your positive attitude is what is going to beat this disease! i am very proud and impressed with how you are handling all of this. stay strong michael – especially in mind! God has a plan for everything, and He is listening to everyone who is praying for you! you are dearly loved! sally
Yul Brenner? What about Bruce Willis, it’s the look! Bald men are sexy, they don’t waste hormones on growing hair. Hair is just part of the package……it’s what is inside that counts. You are going to look great no matter what!….and now you’ll know what your head really looks like ;>)
Love you –
Mom
Howdy, Michael!!!! (Aggie greeting) I got your email which is like a leaf on a windy day….seems to be blowing everywhere and in everyone’s mailbox (yard). That didn’t make much sense, but I tried. Anyway, the deal about Yul was right down my alley. As you know, I have been like Yul and now possibly you for quite a while. When folks ask about my hairstyle I either tell ’em that I’m on the swim team at____ or did it break dancing. You use the explanation that gets the most chuckles.
You might want to inquire about some mouth wash that is good for numbing your mouth or some Anbesol or some Kenalog in Orabase for those ulcers.
I don’t know how you feel about the spiritual aspect of this situation, but it is a great time to draw close to the Lord and just tell him how you feel and that you need a “big hug!”
Hang in there and let me know if you need some O+ blood or platelettes because I’m due to give some more now. If you can get it credited to you there then let me know and I’ll handle it here.
